A Monody in Memory of Comrade Luo Ronghuan
—a verse of eight seven-character lines
There remains with me a vivid memory of the then “over-the-grass flight”,
In the ranks of the Red Army we were often absent from each other’s sight.
The trials in the days of the Long March we could bear up and held light,
But a vital problem cropped up in the very Battle of Jinzhou, a crucial fight.
The roc usually becomes a target for the quail to bully and slight,
And the yellowish chicken always carps at the eagle with derision and backbite.
Alas! After thy eternal departure from this temporal world,
With whom can I take counsel on state affairs in a perplexing plight?
