Early experiences
Jay Chou was born in New Taipei City, Taiwan, with ancestral roots in Yongchun County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. At the age of 4, his mother Ye Huimei sent him to the Danjiangshan Ye Preschool Music Class to learn piano. In the second year of junior high school, Jay Chou was raised by his mother Ye Huimei after his parents divorced due to personality differences.
