Zhang Ziyi is one of the most internationally well-known Chinese actresses. She has been nominated for numerous awards throughout her career, including three BAFTA Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award nomination. In the past year, she paid attention to the rebuilding of her public image by taking part in many charity events after a string of scandals bewildered her in the past two years. As one of the most recognizable Chinese faces, Zhang was featured in a new “Experience China” ad campaign by the Chinese government and Zhang also sang a song at the 16th Asian Games.” Her income reached 74.5 million yuan (US$11.52 million) in the assessment period.
In 1996, she officially entered the entertainment industry as an actress.
In 1998, the romantic film “My Father and Mother” starring her was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the Berlin International Film Festival, and she won the Best Actress Award at the 23rd Popular Film Hundred Flowers Award for this film.
In 1999, the martial arts action film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” starring her became the first Chinese-language film to win the “Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film”. With this film, she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the American Independent Spirit Award and the Best Newcomer Award at the Chicago Film Critics Association Award.

In 2004, the martial arts film “House of Flying Daggers” starring her was released, and she won the Outstanding Actress Award at the 11th China Film Huabiao Award for this film; in the same year, she won the Best Actress Award at the 24th China Film Golden Rooster Award for the feature film “Jasmine Blossoms”.
In 2005, she became a lifetime judge of the Academy Awards; in the same year, she won the Best Actress Award at the 24th Hong Kong Film Awards for the film “2046” and was nominated for the Best Actress Award at the 63rd American Film and Television Golden Globe Awards for the film “Memoirs of a Geisha”.
In 2006, she served as a judge of the main competition unit of the Cannes International Film Festival. In 2009, she won the Outstanding Actress Award at the 13th China Film Huabiao Awards for the film “Mei Lanfang”.
In 2013, the action movie “The Grandmaster” starring her was released, and she won the Best Actress Award at the 50th Taiwan Film Golden Horse Awards, the Best Actress Award at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards, and the Best Actress Award at the 32nd Popular Film Hundred Flowers Awards.

In 2016, she served as a judge of the main competition unit of the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2019, he served as the chairman of the jury of the main competition unit of the Tokyo International Film Festival.
In 2021, he starred in his first TV series “Shangyang Fu”.
On September 4, 2024, Zhang Ziyi appeared on the red carpet as a judge of the main competition unit of the 81st Venice Film Festival.
