Film Introduction
Flying Swords of Dragon Gate is a 2011 wuxia film directed by Tsui Hark and starring Jet Li, Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Li Yuchun, Kwai Lun-mei, Louis Fan and Mavis Fan. The film is a remake of Dragon Gate Inn (1966) and New Dragon Gate Inn (1992). Production started on October 10, 2010 and is filmed in 3-D. The film screened out of competition at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012. The film received seven nominations at the 2012 Asian Film Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Plot
The film tells the story of the Ming Dynasty Xianzong period, when the knight Zhao Huaian was hunted down while rescuing loyal and honest people. After going through untold hardships, he finally escaped to Longmen Inn. There he unexpectedly met the inn’s proprietress Jin Xiangyu, as well as a princess and her entourage who were determined to find treasure to restore the Western Xia Dynasty. The fates of many forces are intertwined in this scene.
During the reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Ming Dynasty, eunuchs abused their power and killed virtuous officials. In the rescue operation, the knight Zhao Huaian killed the evil East Factory Supervisor Wan Yulou with a sword, which attracted the West Factory Supervisor Yu Huatian, who issued a killing order. Zhao Huaian and others fled all the way to Longmen in Jiayuguan and disappeared in the overwhelming black sandstorm. After the dust settled, the West Factory spies, the Tatar caravan and other people from all walks of life once again stayed at Longmen Inn, a black shop in the desert.
In the Longmen Inn, which was destroyed by fire three years ago, the coquettish proprietress had mysteriously disappeared, leaving only the guys who escaped the fire to start over and wait for the proprietress to come back. The Border Inn, which was almost forgotten by the world, is once again in turmoil due to fate. Why does the appearance of the mysterious guest Feng Lidao look so similar to Yu Huatian? Who is Ling Yanqiu, the flute-playing woman who knows the secret passage of the inn like the back of her hand? Just as the pursuers of the West Factory led by Yu Huatian arrived, several tornadoes suddenly blew up on the horizon, and Zhao Huaian flew out across the sky, wanting to fight Yu Huatian to the death. In the wind and smoke of the desert, a battle between good and evil that changes the color of the world is about to begin.
