“Autumn Day” is a poem written by the Tang Dynasty poet Geng Xuan, which expresses sentimental emotions and nostalgia for history. This poem depicts the quiet and desolate scenery of autumn evening, expressing the sorrow of being full of sorrow but no one to “talk to”. The first two sentences describe the desolate autumn evening scenery, exaggerating the author’s sad mood; the last two sentences turn from the near scene to the distant scene, expressing the melancholy of the past prosperity and the present decline by borrowing the “sorrow of the millet separation”. The whole poem uses simple and natural language, starting with the description of static scenery and ending with dynamic scenery, from scenery to emotion, from emotion to scenery, and from scenery to emotion. This writing method makes the poetic meaning beyond the image, profound and meaningful.

An Autumn Day

The afterglow falls into the small lane,
To whom can I word my pains?
Scarcely a person passes on the ancient way,
In autumn wind millet and maize sway.
