Jin Renrui generally refers to Jin Shengtan. Jin Shengtan (1608.4.17-1661.8.7) was named Cai, with the courtesy name Ruocai. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, he changed his name to Renrui, with the courtesy name Shengtan and the alias Kunpeng Sanshi, and called himself Master Lao’an. He was a famous writer and literary critic from Wu County, Suzhou during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Born in the late Ming Dynasty, he was arrogant and had a peculiar aura. Jin Shengtan’s main achievement lies in literary criticism, commenting on books such as “Water Margin”, “The Story of the Western Chamber”, “Zuo Zhuan”, as well as Tang poetry from various schools of Du Fu.
Jin Renrui (also known as Jin Shengtan) did not create a poem called “Willow”, which may have been misunderstood or confused by the questioner. However, it is possible to analyze the poem “Willow” written by Tang Dynasty poet Li Shangyin.
金人瑞·《柳》
陶令门前白酒瓢,亚夫营里血腥刀。
春风不管人间事,一例千条与万条。
Willows
Jin Renrui
Magistrate Tao took to drink amid five willows;
General Zhou’s camp was stored with bloody swords.
Spring breeze does not care about worldly affairs;
It just turns willow branches green as usual.
