Introduction
Today,I’d like to introduce a Hong Kong action-comedy film, Kids From Shaolin (少林小子shàolín xiǎozi). It is also a 1984 Chinese kung fu film, directed by Chang Hsin-yen.
It stars Jet Li (李连杰Li Liánjié), Yu Chenghui (于承惠Yú Chénghuì), Yu Hai and Ding Lan from the original 1982 Shaolin Temple film, which is also directed by Chang. However, the plot has no bearing with the first movie and hence Kids from Shaolin is a sequel to the original in name only.
The film also stars Jet Li’s first wife Huang Qiuyan (黄秋燕Huáng Qiūyàn) as his rival and later love interest. Li first met Huang, also a martial artist, in martial school and they went on to have two daughters. (The couple is now divorced and Li is now married to Nina Li Chi, a former Hong Kong actress.)
Plot
Along the beautiful Li River, there live two families, Long and Bao. The Long family, who are proficient in Shaolin Kung Fu, has 8 boys, and the Bao family, who are proficient in Wudang Kung Fu, has 8 girls. Tianlong asked someone to come to the door to ask for marriage. Bao’s mother wanted to recruit him as a son-in-law, but Tianlong proposed to live with all the little dragons. This proposal aroused the suspicion of Bao’s father, so he delayed the marriage.

The bandit leader Vulture, who was injured in the right eye by Tianlong ten years ago, sneaked here at this time, waiting for an opportunity to take revenge, and designed to provoke the two families of Shaolin and Wudang to achieve their own goals. They first killed the temple priest of Bao Village, and then pretended to be the temple priest to blame the Long family for the reason that the Bao family could not have children.
Sanlong brought all the little dragons to the Bao family to match his father and second uncle, but he didn’t want to have a misunderstanding with the proud Sanfeng, and the grudge between the two sides deepened. Later, Bao’s mother gave birth to a boy. The bandits used a trick to abduct the boy, but he was rescued by Sanlong. However, Bao’s father thought it was a trick by the Long family, and wanted to drown Sanfeng, who let Dilong and Erfeng go, according to the family law. Fortunately, she was rescued by Sanlong.
The bandits took advantage of the chaos to attack Bao Village. At the critical moment, the Long family and Erfeng came to help. After the two families joined forces, they won a great victory and put aside their past grudges. Dafeng and Tianlong, Erfeng and Dilong both got married.
