Introduction
“A Family in Wenzhou” is jointly produced by Zhejiang Radio and Television Group, Beijing Geliang Media Co., Ltd., Shandong Film and Television Production Center, Zhejiang Film and Television Group, Shandong Film and Television Media Group, Wenzhou Radio and Television Media Group, and CCTV. It is directed by Kong Sheng and Li Xue, written by Gao Mantang, and starred by Li Liqun, Yin Tao, Zhang Yi, Chi Peng and others. This is a love and drama TV series.
The story tells that in the early 1980s, when the entrepreneurial boom in Wenzhou was rising, Zhou Wanshun from Gushu Village, Ruian, Wenzhou, resolutely decided to send his 13-year-old daughter Zhou Ayu to Italy alone. He sold his ancestral house and all his belongings, and brought his wife Zhao Yinhua and son Zhou Maigou to Wenzhou on foot. After arriving in Wenzhou, Zhou Wanshun, who entered the city, started as a scavenger and gradually transformed into a successful businessman. In order to get rid of his father, Zhou Maigou, who loved face and was rebellious, ran away from home in shame and anger to the northwest and began his own difficult entrepreneurial journey. Zhou Ayu, who lived far away in Italy, overcame all difficulties and started as a dishwasher. With his excellent business acumen, he successfully started a business in Prato, Italy.
The drama was broadcast on CCTV-1 on November 10, 2012. After the broadcast, it became the most popular TV series on CCTV in 2012 with a stable average viewership of 2.6% and a finale viewership of over 3%. In 2013, it was nominated for the Best TV Series at the 19th Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Award and the Silver Award of the 12th Sichuan TV Festival “Golden Panda” Award.
Plot
At the beginning of the 1980s, the Reform and Opening up has taken place in the southern part of China with emergence of many individual businesses. Zhou Wanshun, who lived in Rui’an City, announced two big decisions. One was to let his daughter, Ayu, go to study in Italy. The expenses came from selling the house. The other was that he planned to search opportunities of businesses in Wenzhou City with his wife, Zhao Yinhua and his 16-year-old son, Maigou. From then on, the family members lead different lives in different places. Zhou started with picking garbage, and tried selling shoes, switches, lamps and oil, etc. He did whatever making a profit. Besides, his wife found opportunities in selling buttons and managed to start her own business. Maigou, who was a stubborn man, fought for his business in the northwest part of China. Ayu, who struggled from a young age, grew into an outstanding representative of Wenzhou businessmen and met the love of her life.
