凉思
客去波平槛，
蝉休露满枝。
永怀当此节，
倚立自移时。

Autumn Thoughts
Guests gone,waves level with the balustrade,
Cicadas silent,branches wet with dew.
How can I forget what is done and made
Standing there for hours,I’m thinking of you.
Two years stand between me and Northern Star.
No news from Southern home,it’s overdue.
I can but dream and divine from afar,
Doubting if you have made connaissance new.
Note:The Northern Star refers to the capital.
As autumn arrives and the weather gets colder, the poet recalls his friend’s departure and misses him immensely. The poem is concise in its use of words, but full of deep emotion.
