Li Deng (date of birth and death unknown), courtesy name Li Dao, alias Bi Jian, was born in Nancheng (now in Jiangxi), or Jinchuan (now in Sichuan). His family was a prominent family in Nancheng. He had no intention of pursuing a career in politics in his early years, and lived a detached life, often traveling with literary friends, writing poems and essays. In the second year of Shaoding (1229), a peasant uprising broke out in Tingzhou, which soon spread to Nancheng. He fled with his family for three years. In the first year of Chunyou (1241), he passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi. At that time, he was already old. He wrote a poem: “The world has changed my temples, and the sun and the moon have died in my heart. I swore to follow the deer and pigs, and I won the first place again.” He served as secretary of Wu’an Army and lieutenant of Ningdu (now in Jiangxi). He was a poet who was relatively simple and not particular about fine craftsmanship in the Jianghu School. Most of his poems describe the suffering of wandering and wandering, and occasionally touch on unreasonable social phenomena. The language is simple and natural. He wrote one volume of “骳稿”, and “全宋词” collected 13 of his poems.

《沽酒》 利登
有钱但沽酒,莫买南山田。
勾引催租人,惊散青松烟。
Wine
Li Teng
Should you have money, go
and buy wine,
never put it into buying land
on the southern slopes,
for should you do so
tax-collectors will come,
ever making trouble,
not even the clouds among the pines
remaining in peace.
