Mount Heaven’s Gate[1]Viewed from Afar
Breaking Mount Heaven’s Gate, the great River rolls through,
Its east-flowing green billows,hurled back here,turn north.
From the two river banks thrust out the mountains blue,
Leaving the sun behind,a lonely sail comes forth.
注释:
[1]In present-day Anhui Province.
Tianmen Mountain is a combination of the East and West Liangshan Mountains in Anhui Province. The two mountains face each other across the river, like a gateway opened by heaven, hence the name Tianmen Mountain. The mountain was actually washed away by the Yangtze River, indicating the surging water; Although the water is strong, we still have to change the direction here, which shows that the mountain is steep. The poet sailed downstream by boat, with peaks turning and the road turning, as if the green mountains on both sides were eagerly welcoming him. The word ‘out’ brings the mountains to life. Is’ a lone sail ‘the lonely boat in sight, or the boat on which the poet sits? If we look at it, then the ‘sun’ should be the rising sun; If referring to the poet’s ship, it is the sunset. From the perspective of the entire poem, it is better for Qing Shan to welcome the poet. If there is no one in the poem, it is purely a depiction of scenery; If there is someone, then it is better to blend in with the scenery and emotions.
