Hao Jing Poem: Fallen Flowers –

Fallen Flowers[1]

Hao Jing

As rainbow clouds o’er darkened door, red petals shower;

On jadeite branch is left the trace of fallen flower.

Of peach and plum in eastern breeze dream butterflies;

For moonlit hills and northern walls cuckoo’s soul cries.

Jade railings stand in chilly mist amid bare trees;

The beauty[2] gone in Golden Vale, wine cups displease.

Don’t sweep the blooms spread pell-mell in the yard away!

Let vernal beauty stay till the end of the day!

注释:

[1]This was written when the poet was detained in the south, so he compared himself to the butterfly and the cuckoo longing for the north.

[2]The beautiful Lady Green Pearl fell down from the tower in the Garden of Golden Vale like fallen flowers in 300.

This poem depicts a scene of spring scenery. The author uses vivid language to combine natural scenery with human emotions, expressing their longing for the beauty of spring and their feelings for the passage of time.

At the beginning of the poem, the colorful clouds and red rain dim the long gate, which is a type of palace gate. The scene of colorful clouds and red rain makes people feel spectacular and desolate. Then it describes the green traces remaining on the jade branches, and the departure of spring has taken away most of the flowers, leaving only some withered traces.
