Gao Qi Poem: On a Visit – 高启《寻胡隐君》

寻胡隐君

[明]高启

渡水复渡水,

看花还看花。

春风江上路,

不觉到君家。

On a Visit

Gao Qi

I cross stream after stream,

And view flowers on flowers.

I arrive as in dream,

Glad to forget the hours.

“Looking for Hu Yinjun” is a five-character quatrain written by the Ming Dynasty poet Gao Qi. This poem records the beautiful and charming scenery the poet saw on the way to his friend’s house. The flowing water, flowers, spring breeze, and small roads are a picture of the spring scenery in the south of the Yangtze River. It is overwhelming and expresses the poet’s light and leisurely mood. The whole poem is repetitive but concise, seemingly simple but full of chic.
