On Cold Food Day[1]

Yu Ji

The land is not mine though beautiful it appears;

My father and myself have roamed a hundred years.

By waterside their cottages stand and graveyard lies.

How can I bear to hear cuckoo’s home-going cries![2]

注释:

[1]On Cold Food Day the Chinese people used to visit their ancestral graveyard and take cold meals.

[2]The cuckoo seems to sing in Chinese, “Why not go home?”
