Qian Fenglun (1644-1712), styled Yunyi, was born in Qiantang, Zhejiang Province (now Hangzhou) during the early Qing Dynasty. She was the daughter of Qian Anhou, a jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations), and married Huang Shixu, a zhusheng (a scholar who had passed the provincial examination). She wrote the collection “Gu Xiang Lou Ji”.
钱凤纶（1644—1712），字云仪，清初浙江钱塘（今杭州）人。进士钱安侯女，诸生黄式序室。著有《古香楼集》四卷，含诗悇一卷。

深院闲春昼，
小篆喷金兽。
一杯清茗一枰棋，
正杏雨香飞候。
鹦鹉新声溜，

Meifeng bi: Playing Chess with Yaqing on a Spring Day
Qian Fenglun
In the deepest courtyard, on a quiet spring day,
The gold animal（1） puffs “small seal” incense.
With each fresh cup of tea, a new chess game begins.
In the season of apricot rains the air is sweet.
My parrot’s chatter has just become fluent when,
Suddenly, he jumps down to the ground.
Distracted, I turn to look, and
To my dismay, needlessly forfeit a jade scratcher!
Leaning on the screen, laughing, we twist off a flowering branch to breathe its scent.（2）
（1）. The “gold animal” is a metal incense burner.
（2）. A head scratcher carved from jadeite, bone, ivory, or wood was a personal accessory in earlier China. The speaker has wagered her scratcher, sure of winning, but when she looks away she loses her concentration, the game, and the scratcher.
