Shangguan Wan’er: also known as Shangguan Zhaorong (664-710 AD), a female official, poetess and Zhaorong of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty. She was born in Shan County, Shanzhou (now in Henan Province). She was the granddaughter of Shangguan Yi. After Yi was killed, she followed her mother Zheng into the inner court. At the age of 14, she was in charge of imperial edicts for Wu Zetian. During the reign of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang Dynasty, she was named Zhaorong. She once suggested expanding the library and adding more scholars. She evaluated poems and essays from all over the world on behalf of the court. (1) Many poets gathered at her door. When Prince Linzi (i.e. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty) started a rebellion, she was killed at the same time as Empress Wei.
上官婉儿：又称上官昭容（公元664－公元710年），唐代女官、女诗人、唐中宗昭容。陕州陕县（今属河南）人。上官仪孙女。仪被杀，随母郑氏配入内庭。年十四，即为武则天掌文诰。唐中宗时，封为昭容。曾建议扩大书馆，增设学士。代朝廷品评天下诗文，（一）时词臣多集其门。临淄王（即唐玄宗）起兵，与韦后同时被杀。

Shangguan Wan’er
Propped on my staff, I looked over wispy peaks,
Then with hazardous pace descended frosty trails.
My goals grew serene the deeper I went in the hills,
I strayed on the path that bent with the mountain stream.
Slowly I sensed detachment in my soul,
And noticed at once how fogs were sinking low.
Be not dismayed I wrote upon that tree
It was because I cherished this hidden rest.
