“Early Summer in Zhenxi” is a seven-character quatrain written by Shao Hengzhen, a writer in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It is a poem describing the early summer scenery in the rural areas of Jiangnan.

Chinaberry trees begin to flower in wind that ripples the stream;
At the ferry a traveler himself has to do the ferrying.
On the beach a playful kid stands by the waters,
