A 700 million contract kicked off the state-owned enterprises reform and capital operation. Wang Guilin, the factory director，and Yu Zhide, the deputy director had different ideas about restructuring. Wang made every effort to use the 700 million yuan in balancing the plant development and employees’ interests. Yu wanted to use market-based means. Under the pressure of the global financial crisis, two companies Seth and SC were in a competition for the contract. Qiao Li, a green hand of Seth’s sales department, was the one being pushed to the forefront. She was taken advantage of by her bosses to challenge Wang constantly while facing the test of her bottom line. At last, Yu was jailed because of his greediness and Wang took the responsibility of reconstruction.

“Floating and Sinking” is a workplace emotional drama jointly produced by SMG Shangshi Pictures, Beijing Huamei Space-Time Culture Communication Co., Ltd., Xinli Media Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Dongpei Culture Communication Co., Ltd., directed by Teng Huatao, written by Bao Jingjing, and starring Zhang Jiayi, Bai Baihe, Wang Zhifei, Wang Yaoqing, and Yano Koji.
The play is adapted from Cui Manli’s novel of the same name “Floating and Sinking”, which tells the story of manager secretary Qiao Li being transferred to the company’s sales department and a war without gunpowder between the factory director Wang Guilin, Yu Zhide, and the two companies SC and Seth over a grant of 700 million yuan.
The play was broadcast on Dragon TV, Beijing Satellite TV, Zhejiang Satellite TV, and Shenzhen Satellite TV on June 30, 2012. In August 2013, the play won the third prize of the 29th China TV Drama Feitian Award-Long TV Drama.
