“Two Poems on Tongchao Pavilion at Chengmai Posthouse” is a collection of poems by Su Shi, a writer in the Song Dynasty. These two poems are intended to express the feeling of homesickness and longing for home. The first poem describes the scene seen when climbing Tongchao Pavilion, and the leisurely and elegant brushstrokes reveal the melancholy of being away from home; the second poem uses allusions to express the strong homesickness. Although this group of poems are all about the melancholy of being away from home, the first poem uses the scenery to express interest, which is elegant and leisurely; while the second poem uses the scenery to express emotions, and the emotions are passionate and long-lasting. The two poems fully reflect the “clear and heroic” style characteristics of Su Shi’s poems.
