“Two Poems on the Autumn Scenery Painted by Li Shinan” is a group of poems by Su Shi, a writer in the Song Dynasty. This is a group of seven-character quatrains written for the painting “Autumn Scenery in Pingyuan” by Li Shinan, a Lang of Xuande. The first one is widely circulated. The first two sentences of this poem focus on outlining the scenery with thick brushstrokes, giving people a sense of the intimate seasonal scenery; the last two sentences, while using light ink to slightly dot and dye, use imagination to express the melodious mood and overflowing talent. The whole poem has a lofty mood, rich meaning and interest, and the mind gallops, turning over the sky and surprising, giving readers a beautiful enjoyment. The two poems are rich in imagination, combining the real and the imaginary, and express the scenery and interest beyond the painting.

The tide nibbles at the bank as it ebbs and flows,
Some frosty roots thrust out from the sparse wood;
To what port is the solitary boat returning?
Back to the village of yellow leaves south of the river.
