Sun Kuang-hsien: "Deva-like Barbarian" (P'u-sa Man) ~ 孙光宪·《菩萨蛮·其一》 with English Translations

Sun Guangxian’s “Pu Sa Man: Part One” vividly depicts the spring scenery of the south and the sorrow of parting, with a strong sense of life and artistic appeal.

“Deva-like Barbarian” (P’u-sa Man)

Sun Kuang-hsien

Bright moonlight floods the steps like a cascade of water.

The golden knocker clatters when the door is being closed.

Chill shadows fall from the topmost eaves.

The curtain is trailing loose on its hook.

A smoky mist of azure softly curls around.

The red candle flame shakes with laughter.

So this is what Kao-t’ang is really about.

The screen conceals her long autumn dream.
