Wang Fuzi: Jueju ~ 王夫子·《绝句》 with English Translations
Wang Fuzhi (1619-1692), courtesy name Ernong, was born in Hengyang, Hunan. He was a juren in the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty. He once joined the Yongli Gui Wang to fight against the Qing Dynasty. After the fall of the Southern Ming Dynasty, he retired to the mountains and devoted himself to writing. He was well-versed in classics, history and literature, and made outstanding contributions. Scholars called him Mr. Chuanshan. He was born in the "hometown of Qu Yuan". Influenced by the Chu Ci, he followed the example of "Li Sao" and used beautiful women and fragrant herbs to express his feelings, such as in "Quatrain": "Green for half a year and barren for half a year, the grass in the high fields is like barren in the lower fields. I bury my heart to keep the spring, and endure the strong wind and frost for ten nights." The "immortality" of the heart of the grass is used to illustrate the unyielding determination and the ideal of restoring the "spring" of his homeland. ——舟已行矣,而剑不行:求剑若此,不亦惑乎?——《吕氏春秋》 Jueju Wang Fuzi Only green for half a year, for the other half the land lies waste; The grass in uplands is yellow just… -
