Zi Hua Zi: The Man Who was Found in the Well ~ 《子华子》 with English Translations
Translation: There was a man named Ding in Song State. He didn't have a well at home, so he had to go out to fetch water for the fields. Therefore, there was always someone outside to fetch water. When his family dug a well, he told others, "My family got a person when digging the well." People who heard it spread the word, "The Ding family dug a person in the well." People living in the capital were talking about this matter, and the king of Song State knew about it. The king of Song State sent people to ask the Ding family about the situation. The Ding family replied, "We got the labor of an idle person, not a living person dug in the well."This fable tells us: Don't believe rumors easily, don't spread words without thinking about them, and don't listen to hearsay. Hearing is false, seeing is true. Don't spread rumors after hearing them. Think about whether it makes sense. Don't just follow the crowd and believe everything you hear, so as to spread rumors. ——《子华子》 The Man Who was Found in the Well The Ding family in the state of Song had no well…
