Praise For Humble Scholars: Seven Poems: No. 7

Qing pin lue nan chou.

Nian ji gan ren qi
Qi ti xiang wo liu.

Gu wei er nu you.

Tian zeng jing mo chou.

Praise For Humble Scholars: Seven Poems: No.7

In the past, Huangzi Lian
Dusted off his hat, appointed to a high government position.
One morning, he took leave of his office
Quickly became poor, like his companions.

Years of famine, his wife concerned
Her tears flowed freely.
Even though these men have ideals
They make their children anxious for their own welfare.

Hui Sun heard of, and then praised him
But offers of many gifts to help were refused.
Who says being poor is so difficult?
Though he lived so long ago, I can learn a lot from his example !
