T'eng Han-ch'ing: The Statue of the Weaver Girl by K'un-ming Lake ~ 童翰卿·《昆明池织女石》 with English Translations

童翰卿是宣宗和懿宗年间工于诗词的著名才子,《昆明池织女石》是他的诗词之一。

Tong Hanqing was a famous scholar who worked in poetry during the reigns of Emperor Xuanzong and Emperor Yizong. “The Weaver Girl Stone in Kunming Pool” is one of his poems.

The Statue of the Weaver Girl by K’un-ming Lake

T’eng Han-ch’ing

Made of a single portion of lovely K’un-ming stone,

Ever through endless ages as Weaver Maiden known,

Dazzling, glinting, flashing, starlike it seems to sway,

Floating as if in beauty o’er limpid waves away.

Graceful its robe the mosses sprinkle with spots of green.

Like to the sound of its shuttle murmurs the lake between.

Clouds on the shore entwining moisten its wreathing hair.

Moonbeams play on the beaches curved like its eye-brows fair.

Sweetly its face is smiling on beautiful lotus flowers.

Heedless it stands. The seagulls fear not its silent powers.

Clear its outline as if shown in a mirror bright.

(Dream of the sculptor’s vision, bride of the perfect night!) 1
