Synposis
Ah-Ching (Doze Niu) and his friends have just finished school in their island fishing village, Fengkuei, and now spend most of their time drinking and fighting. Three of them decide to go to the port city of Kaohsiung to look for work. They find an apartment through relatives, and Ah-Ching is attracted to the girlfriend of a neighbor. There they face the harsh realities of the big city and of growing up.
This is a very fabulous film.
Plot
Fenggui, a small island in the Penghu Islands, is a quiet fishing village. A group of boys graduated from high school and had no jobs, waiting for conscription. They were bored and watched operas, gambled, and fought bravely. Weng Aqing’s father was a baseball player. Once he was hit on the head by a ball and became demented. He sat on a rattan chair at the door all day. When Aqing fed him, he only wanted to go out to play, which made his father choke. He made trouble outside and quarreled with his sister when he came home. His mother was cutting vegetables and heard Aqing swearing. She was so angry that she picked up a kitchen knife and threw it at him, cutting his calf. Once, Aqing, Arong, and Guozi fought with others with sticks and bricks, injured the other party, and were punished by the police. So the three of them left Fenggui and came to Kaohsiung, a city in southern Taiwan.
