The Crumbling Wall – Ancient Chinese Fables

Translation: There was a rich man in Song State. It rained and the wall of his house was damaged. The rich man’s son said, “If we don’t repair it, someone will steal it.” The old man next door said the same thing. At night, the rich man’s family really lost a lot of things. As a result, the rich man thought his son was smart and suspected that the old man next door had stolen his things. It warns people that if they do not respect facts and only use intimacy and feelings as the standard for judging right and wrong, they will make subjective assumptions and draw wrong conclusions, which may harm themselves.

《古代寓言·坯墙》

宋有富人,大雨坏墙。
其子曰:“不筑,必将有盗。”
其邻人之父亦云。
暮而果大亡其财。
其家甚智其子,而疑邻从之父。
