昔有二人，共种甘蔗，而作誓言：“种好者赏；其不好者，当重罚之。”时二人中，一者念言：“甘蔗极甜，若压取汁，还灌甘蔗树，甘美必甚，得胜于彼。”即压甘蔗，取汁用溉，冀望滋味。返败种子，所有甘蔗，一切都失。
Watering the Sugarcane
Two men made a pledge when they both planted sugarcanes: He who gets a good crop will be awarded, he who gets a bad crop will be heavily punished.
One of them thought, “Since the sugarcane is very sweet, if I press the cane and water the filed with the juice, the canes will become even sweeter and I am sure to win the competition.” The man then pressed the canes and poured the juice into the field. Since this spoiled all the sugarcane seeds, he met with total failure.
