《义玄语录·佛今何在》
三乘十二分教，皆是拭不净故纸，佛是幻化身，祖是老比丘。尔还是娘生已否？尔若求佛，即被佛魔摄；尔若求祖，即被祖魔摄。尔若有求皆苦，不如无事。有一般秃比丘向学人道：佛是究竟，于三大阿僧祗劫，修习果满方始成道。道流！尔若道佛是究竟，缘什么八十年后向拘尸罗城双林树间侧卧而死去？佛今何在？明知与我生死不别。

Where is Buddha Now?
Zen Master Yixuan of Linji said, “All the twelve division of the canon of Triyana are paper for wiping away dirt. Buddha is an illusion; the Patriarchs are no more than old monks. Were you not born of woman too? If you appeal to Buddha for help, you are caught in a Buddha obsession; if you appeal to the Patriarchs for help, you are seized by a Patriarch obsession. All such appeals lead to suffering, it is best to let be. A monk, a mere bald-head, said to seekers after the Way, ‘Buddha is the ultimate truth. He worked at his spiritual salvation through endless aeons until he reached perfection and was enlightenment itself. ’ But, if Buddha is the ultimate truth, why did he, at the age of eighty, lie down among the trees in the forest of Kusinagara City and die? And where is he now? He lived and died just like one of us.”
