Li Po (李白), also Romanized as Li Bai, Li Bo, and Li Pai, was a Chinese poet of the Tang Dynasty likely born in 701.
客中[1]行
兰陵[2]美酒郁金香，
玉碗[3]盛来琥珀光。
但使[4]主人能醉客[5]，
不知何处是他乡。
李白曾在开元年间移居东鲁，这首诗作于东鲁的兰陵，而称兰陵为“客中”，因此当作于移居东鲁之前。兰陵虽是做客之地，但和美酒联系起来，就带有留恋的感情色彩；加上美酒是用郁金香加工浸制的，有醇浓的香味，盛在晶莹的玉碗里，看起来就像琥珀一般光艳。这样的美酒还有好客的主人作陪，所以诗人虽然身在客中，却乐而忘忧，不觉得是在他乡了。这首诗被法国女诗人戈谢译成法文，又被德国作曲家马勒编为《大地之歌》第三乐章，在全世界广为流传。

How flavorous is golden-tuliped Lanling[1]wine!
Filling my bowl of jade,in amber it will glow.

Li Bai moved to Eastern Lu during the Kaiyuan period. This poem was written in Lanling in Eastern Lu, and Lanling was called “Guest House”, so it should have been written before he moved to Eastern Lu. Although Lanling is a place for guests, it is associated with fine wine, which has a nostalgic color; plus the fine wine is processed and soaked with tulips, with a mellow fragrance, and served in a crystal jade bowl, it looks as bright as amber. Such fine wine is accompanied by a hospitable host, so although the poet is a guest, he is happy and forgets his worries, and does not feel that he is in a foreign land. This poem was translated into French by the French poetess Gaucher, and was compiled into the third movement of “Song of the Earth” by the German composer Mahler, and is widely circulated around the world.
