Xiao Cha: Lily ~ 萧詧·《百合》 with English Translations

Emperor Xuan of Liang, Xiao Yun (519-562 AD), with the courtesy name Lisun, was born in Nanlanling (now Wujin District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province). The founding emperor of the Western Liang Dynasty (reigned from 555 to 562), the grandson of Emperor Wu of Liang Xiao Yan, and the third son of Prince Zhaoming Xiao Tong. I have been eager to learn and proficient in Buddhism since childhood. At the beginning, he was granted the title of Duke of Qujiang County by the imperial grandson. In the third year of the Zhongtong reign, he was conferred the title of King of Yueyang, appointed as the Governor of East Yangzhou, and transferred to the position of Governor of Yongzhou. In the third year of the Taiqing reign, Prince Xiao Yu of Hedong was attacked by Prince Xiao Yi of Xiangdong. He led his troops to attack Jiangling, but was defeated and fled. He then pledged allegiance to Western Wei and borrowed troops. In the third year of Chengsheng (554 AD), General Yang Zhong of Western Wei captured Jiangling. After the death of Emperor Yuan of Liang, Xiao Yan officially ascended to the throne and established the Western Liang, with the reign title Da Ding. In the fourth year of Dading (558 AD), the general Wang Cao was dispatched to seize Changsha, Wuling, Nanping and other counties in Xiangzhou. In the eighth year of Dading (562 AD), he passed away and was posthumously honored with the title of Emperor Xuan and the temple name Zhongzong. He was buried in Pingling.

Lily

Xiao Cha

The foliages are multiform in appearance,

No variegation presents itself in efflorescence.

Occasionally, kissing the dew, she droops as she pleases,

And, at intervals, bends or lifts her head with the breezes.
