“Huanxisha·Ri Ri Shuang Mei” is a work by Yan Jidao, a poet of the Northern Song Dynasty. Through the true description of the inner pain of the courtesan, this poem expresses sympathy and pity for the unfortunate women who were insulted and harmed in feudal society. The whole poem conveys a melancholy and sad feeling with exquisite words. It seems gentle, but the writing is heavy.

Yan Jidao
From day to day we vie in painting eyebrows long,
As lighthearted as wafting clouds and willow down.
My heart wont’ wed a gallant fond of wine and song.
The wine I split left stains on my fan of songstress;
The flowers I played with perfumed my dancing gown.
Shedding tears all the spring, I tell my loneliness.
