A Love Song:Yang Tuo'er - 李白《杨叛儿》 - Li Bai poems in chinese and english

Li Bai has both a proud side and a secular side. His ideals and freedom can only be sought in the mountains and forests, fairyland, and drunk country. Therefore, he has flowed in poems such as “Jiang Jinjiu”, “Jiangshang Yin”, “Xiangyang Song” and other poems. Revealing the thoughts of life as a dream, having fun in time, escaping from reality, etc., are also representative of the upright and arrogant literati in feudal society.

A Love Song

You sing a lover’s lore;

I urge you to drink more.

What touches you and me?

Crow’s nest in willow tree.

Crows hide mid poplar flowers;

Drunk,you stay in my bowers.

Behold the censer and the sandalwood in fire!

Two wreaths of smoke combine and rise higher and higher.

This poem is based on the Yuefu poem ‘Yang Rebel’. A young man and woman, with the king singing and the concubine persuading them to drink, present a beautiful scene of mutual love and admiration at the beginning, and a joyful atmosphere runs through the entire poem. Baimen is the city gate of Jiankang (now Nanjing), the capital of the Liu Song Dynasty. The folk love songs of the Southern Dynasties often mention the White Gate, and later generations refer to the place where men and women gather. For those who are deeply in love, the most touching thing is naturally the time and place of the date. “Wuti” refers to the sunset, and the question of “what is the most important person” undoubtedly expresses the feelings of all lovers. Wuti is dusk, Wuyin is late dusk, lovers are intoxicated in sweet and affectionate feelings, staying for a while after getting drunk, expressing their love particularly passionately. This sentence has a touching artistic conception, which is similar to the phrase ‘willow shoots on the moon, people meet after dusk’. The last two sentences contain exquisite metaphors of Taoist philosophy, elevating the entire poem to a beautiful love poem.
