The poem ‘The Bridge of Emotions’ is a seven character quatrain written by Yongtao when he was appointed as the governor of Jianzhou. It was a heartfelt farewell poem for a friend. In 854, Yongtao was appointed as the Governor of Jianzhou. Outside the city of Jianzhou, there is a Bridge of Love, which is a place where people greet guests. In a spring, Yongtao sent a guest to Qingjin Bridge without understanding its name. He asked left and right, and left and right replied, “This is where the welcoming place ends, so the bridge is called Qingjin Bridge. Based on his own feelings of bidding farewell and the traditional custom of folding willows to bid farewell, he suggested changing it to Zhe Liuqiao. He also wrote this poem to give to his friend, expressing his reluctance to part with him.
