堆来枕上愁何状，
江海翻波浪。
夜长天色总难明，
寂寞披衣起坐数寒星。
晓来百念都灰烬，
剩有离人影。
一钩残月向西流，
对此不抛眼泪也无由。

(On the Pillow)
What is piled sorrow like upon the pillow?
It’s roaring seas of woe.
Why should the night be so dark and long?
Lonely, I sat up, counted cold stars, with my coat on.
Dawn found all my night thoughts gone,
Save the parting image of one.
The waning moon is westward moving,
How can my tears hold back my feeling?
