The poem ‘Paying respects to the Scholar Li and sending a box’ is a work by Tang Dynasty female poet Renyu Xuanji. This poem expresses the poet’s deep appreciation for the gift of the silk basket given to him by Master Li, as well as his gratitude towards him. The poet also uses the allusion of Ban Jieyu to express his clear understanding of his feelings towards Master Li.

珍簟新铺翡翠楼，泓澄玉水记方流。
唯应云扇情相似，同向银床恨早秋。
To Master Scholar Li, in Thanks for a Summer Mat
Yu Xuanji
Your valued bamboo summer mat
newly graces my emerald tower,
cools as the deepest limpid pool
of the purest jadelike water,
but the feeling’s like a beautiful fan,
lamenting too an early fall,
left on a silver bed.
