The poem “The Master of Chang’an Wall” is a seven character quatrain created by the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Wei. The first two sentences point out that social relationships and friendships in secular society are built on the foundation of gold. The last two sentences vividly depict the insincere smile and cold and heartless heart of the owner of Chang’an Wall. This poem has a plain language, depicting the world’s situation and delving deeply into it, reflecting one aspect of the social and human nature of the mid Tang Dynasty.
