This poem describes the scene of Chang’an at night in the autumn wind through the poet’s vision, and expresses the poet’s profound feelings of homesickness. The first four lines of this poem describe what the poet saw and felt when he looked into the distance in the autumn morning. The second couplet describes the scenery, setting off the bleak atmosphere of autumn. The last two lines describe the thoughts of returning home, and through the allusions of “the thoughts of water shield and perch” and “the prisoner of Chu in the south”, he expresses his depressed mood of wanting to return but not being able to.
这首诗通过诗人望中的所见，写秋风中夜间长安景象，并寄离着诗人思乡的深远情怀。这首诗前四句写诗人秋晓远望之所见与感受。颈联写景，烘托出秋日凄清的气氛。末两句写归思，通过“莼鲈之思”和“南冠楚囚”的典故，抒发自己欲归而不得的苦闷心情。

Autumn View in Chang’an
Zhao Gu
The clouds skim over the residency in a dear way,
And the lofty autumn fills Han palaces with dismay.
Wild geese fly across the border, few stars in the sky.
I lean upon the tower’s rail fluting out a deep sigh.
Still are chrysanthemums, half opened and in purple clad.
When its red dress dropping, the islet lotus looks sad.
I can’t go home to eat my favorite perch but here remain.
As a captive-lie stranger wearing a native cap in vain.
