“Thoughts on Reading” is a work by Zhu Xi, a scholar in the Song Dynasty. This poem uses the phenomenon that the water in a pond is clear because of the inflow of fresh water to illustrate that we must constantly accept new things in order to keep our thoughts active and progressive.
