“Su’s Villa” is a pentasyllabic poem written by the Tang Dynasty poet Zu Yong. This poem describes the poet’s visit to Su’s villa in the mountains. As soon as he arrived at the quiet villa, he felt like a hermit, enjoying the open scenery around the villa and the novel and unique scenery in the villa. He sat down quietly and listened to the chirping of spring birds in the mountains. In this environment, he felt as if he was out of the world, all his worries and distractions disappeared, and he felt very comfortable and happy. The whole poem is refined in language, novel in wording, strict in rhythm, and quiet in artistic conception. It is a masterpiece of pentasyllabic poems in the heyday of the Tang Dynasty.

Your villa lies in a deep gloom,
Who won’t be hermit in your room?
Before your door south mountains dream,
Your garden mirrored in the stream.
Amid bamboos hides winter snow,
Your courtyard lit by evening glow.

You may hear spring birds’ song at leisure.
