English name:The Case Broadcast time:2007 Starring:王宏伟、伍宇娟、王丝菲 director:王分 Introduction From young actress-turned-director Wang Fen(王分 Wáng Fēn) comes this offbeat tale of intrigue and suspense, set in Lijiang(丽江 Lìjiāng). Anyone who has experienced the tourist hell of this UNESCO-listed town may be surprised to see it quiet, atmospheric and free of hordes of people. Wang uses the old streets to lend a sense of claustrophobia to her tale. A middle-aged couple run a guesthouse by the river, and one day the husband, Dashang (Wu Gang), spots a case floating by. Rather than the treasures he had hoped to find, the case contains body parts. As Dashang puzzles over how to dispose of his grisly find, an attractive young couple show up at the guesthouse, prompting feelings of longing, desire and suspicion. Wang gives the film a twist by suggesting that it may all be a figment of Dashang's imagination, trapped as he is in an unhappy marriage and longing for escape. The film has a dreamlike quality, while also portraying the psychological world of a middle-aged man in contemporary China. But not everyone will enjoy the strange blend of comedy and suspense, the characters engaged in farcical goings-on while living in a mysterious and…- 0

As Tears Go By – 旺角卡门 – Chinese Movies

So let us have a brief introduction. As Tears Go By is a 1988 Hong Kong film that was the directorial debut of Wong Kar-wai (王家卫Wáng Jiāwèi). Critics have compared the film to Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets, as the central plot revolves around a small time gangster trying to keep his smaller-time gangster friend out of trouble. Wong Kar Wai's debut feature As Tears Go By is a visceral, idiosyncratic gangster picture, a raw and stylish film that balances gritty realism with bold stylization, colorful imagery and rapid leaps into frenzied action sequences or hazy, drifting slow motion. Violence in this film erupts suddenly, its impact heightened by Wong's accelerated cutting, which signals the abrupt transition from ordinary reality to the bloody, brutal hyper-reality of the fight scenes. A fight scene at a pool hall is preceded by a slow, tense buildup as the inept Triad thug Fly (Jacky Cheung 张学友Zhāng Xuéyǒu) taunts a rival, mocking him by moving balls around on the pool table, brazenly cheating and essentially daring the…- 0
