Editor’s Note: “Book Affairs” is a five-character quatrain by Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei. It is the 64th poem in Volume 128 of the Complete Tang Poems. [1] The poet uses illusion to express the wonderful movement of colors. The first two lines describe the scenery in front of the eyes and convey the feelings in the heart. The last two lines change the dullness into liveliness, which is unique and fascinating. The green color of the moss contrasts with his empty state of mind. When the poet describes the color of the object, he can not only write about its shades, depths, brightness and darkness, write about the contrast and comparison of different colors, but also write about the movement and stillness of the color, and even personify the color to make it spiritual.
