Setting sun lingers in western mountain ridges
Valley after valley suddenly turn dark.
Night grows cool amid pine trees and moonlight
Wind and spring water sounds heard clear and pure.
Woodcutters returning home now all gone
Mountain mists, perching birds, at the beginning of evening calm.
Ding Feng told me to meet him here

Ding Feng: An old, hometown friend who also cannot pass the imperial exams. Meng wants to introduce him to a well-connected capital friend, so the plan was to meet him and talk in an out-of-the-way place.
Qin: Ancient Chinese stringed musical instrument.
