Editor’s introduction: “Birdsong Stream” is the first of a series of poems “Five Miscellaneous Poems on Huangfu Yue’s Yunxi” written by Wang Wei for the Yunxi Villa where his friend Huangfu Yue lived. Each of the five poems describes a scene, which is close to landscape sketching, but different from ordinary freehand paintings, which may be a scenic spot. “Birdsong Stream” focuses on expressing the tranquility and beauty of spring mountains at night. In “Birdsong Stream”, we can not only see the charming environment of spring mountains decorated by bright moon, falling flowers and birdsong, but also feel the peaceful and stable social atmosphere of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
