“Pastoral Music: Peach Blossoms Reflecting the Night’s Rain” is a poem written by Wang Wei (or Huangfu Ran), a poet of the Tang Dynasty. The first and second lines of the poem describe the beautiful scene in the morning after the night’s rain in spring; the third and fourth lines use the technique of contrast, using the actions and sounds of “flowers falling” and “orioles singing” to set off the quietness of the “mountain guest’s” residence and the tranquility and joy of the “mountain guest’s” state of mind.
