Is he god, warrior or simply a naughty boy? The Monkey King’s conflicting personas are part of what makes the character so special, but Sun Wukong (孙悟空) in “Uproar in Heaven 3D” (大闹天宫 Dà Nào Tiāngōng) definitely has more of the latter. After all, this is a feature-length cartoon. The protagonist of Wu Cheng’en’s (吴承恩) classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West” (西游记), Sun Wukong is a brave yet mischievous monkey assigned to protect the monk Xuanzang during his pilgrimage to India. Thanks to an array of TV dramas, movies, comics and videogames, his adventures are well known in China, across all generations, particularly those who grew up watching the 1980s TV series (with its epic theme tune) starring Liuxiaolingtong. “Uproar in Heaven 3D” is a remake of another visualization of the Monkey King story, the original “Uproar in Heaven”, which was considered a landmark picture in the potted history of Chinese animated film. The original Uproar focused on the first seven chapters of the epic novel, covering the birth of this miraculous monkey and his rise to become the monk’s divine protector. For producer Wan Laiming (万籁鸣), bringing what he considered to be one of the greatest Chinese narratives…

"We want the Chinese to feel proud of their countryside and wildlife, to care about it and to seek to ensure its survival. We also hope to redress the negative view of China's environment propagated in western media."— Series Producer Phil Chapman, writing in BBC Wildlife magazine Wild China is a six-part nature documentary series on the natural history of China, co-produced by the BBC Natural History Unit and China Central Television (CCTV) and filmed entirely in high-definition (HD). With wildlife filmmaking in its infancy in China, and a perception in the developed world of a country plagued by environmental problems, the producers hoped that the series would change attitudes in both the East and the West. Filming for the series took place over 16 months, and involved half a million miles of travel on 57 separate filming trips to some of China's most inaccessible and spectacular locations. The production team shot over 500 hours of HD footage in 26 of China's 30 provinces. Despite being granted unprecedented access to many remote and protected areas, one of the main challenges faced by the filmmakers was finding wildlife. Although 15% of China's territory has some form of protection, this is not…

English name：As Tears Go By Broadcast time：June 9, 1988 Starring：刘德华（Andy Lau）、张曼玉（Maggie Cheung）、张学友（Jacky Cheung）、万梓良（Alex Man） director：王家卫（Wong Kar-wai） Introduction Today, I will introduce a Chinese film which called As Tears Go By (旺角卡门wàngjiǎo kǎ mén). So let us have a brief introduction. As Tears Go By is a 1988 Hong Kong film that was the directorial debut of Wong Kar-wai (王家卫Wáng Jiāwèi). Critics have compared the film to Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets, as the central plot revolves around a small time gangster trying to keep his smaller-time gangster friend out of trouble. Wong Kar Wai's debut feature As Tears Go By is a visceral, idiosyncratic gangster picture, a raw and stylish film that balances gritty realism with bold stylization, colorful imagery and rapid leaps into frenzied action sequences or hazy, drifting slow motion. Violence in this film erupts suddenly, its impact heightened by Wong's accelerated cutting, which signals the abrupt transition from ordinary reality to the bloody, brutal hyper-reality of the fight scenes. A fight scene at a pool hall is preceded by a slow, tense buildup as the inept Triad thug Fly (Jacky Cheung 张学友Zhāng Xuéyǒu) taunts a rival, mocking him by moving balls around on the pool table, brazenly cheating and essentially daring the…

Released in 1987, it was largely ignored by critics busy fawning over the emergence of some of China’s biggest film talents: Chen Kaige released the classic “Yellow Earth” in 1984 with Zhang Yimou as his cinematographer, then Zhang Yimou went on to release his directorial debut “Red Sorghum” in 1987, which was also the debut of superstar actress Gong Li. Especially in foreign circles, everyone was talking about the so-called Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmakers, the first class to graduate from the Beijing Film Academy after a tumultuous period in China’s history. Not many people were talking about Huang Shuqin, a director who had graduated from the Academy right before it (even though much of her best work comes from the 1980s). “Woman, Demon, Human” — called 人鬼情 Rén Guǐ Qíng in Chinese — doesn’t have the visual beauty that marks Zhang Yimou’s early films. Huang’s plot is largely…

One of the most popular tropes in romance drama is turning friends to lovers, but what about enemies to lovers?
