就是说袁绍凭借他“四世三公”的这样一个优势，一个家族的优势，结交了很多的人，做出一副折节下士、礼贤下士的样子，干什么呢？骗取一些名誉，因为袁绍结交这些人他有一个原则，就是只见名人，不是海内知名的人袁绍是不接待的。这是干什么呢？这是做秀，这是摆谱，他就等于向世人宣布，我袁大公子可不是什么人都能够随随便便见一见的，我只结交名人。袁绍他这样做的目的是装点门面，是抬高自己的声誉，并不是真心诚意地希望有人来帮助他，因为袁绍这个人是刚愎自用的，他不认为天底下还有比他更聪明的人，他用不着找很多人来帮助他，他只要让世人觉得他这便人才济济就可以了，这就是袁绍的做派。那么袁绍的做派，我们可以总结成这么十六个字，就是：做秀演戏、沽名钓誉、装点门面、自鸣得意。
