曹操为什么能做到这一点呢？几个原因，第一点，曹操聪明，他知道一个搞政治斗争的人，一个在战场上作战的的人，全讲真话那是不可能的，全讲假话是行不通的，这样一个人必须把握什么时候说真话，什么时候说假话，对谁说真话，对谁说假话。对敌人，你肯定要说假话，兵不厌诈嘛，你不能说实话；但是你对你自己的谋士，他们可都是聪明人，那你要说真话，你说真话你才能换取信任，你换取了信任他才会尽心竭力地为你出谋划策，你才能克敌制胜。曹操他能够把握这个真假之间的这个度，这叫做聪明。
Why can Cao Cao do this? There are several reasons. First, Cao Cao is clever. 第二个原因就是随和，曹操这个人性格里面有很好的一面就是他是个性情中人，我们都知道曹操是个诗人，他身上既有军事将领的素质，他也有诗人的气质，他只要不是在正式办公、正式作战的时候，他为人是很随和的，他会跟大家说说笑话，开开玩笑，打打哈哈，这样他就有了一种亲和力。一个做领导的，太严肃了不好，太严肃了，人家觉得你不可亲近；太随便了也不好，太随便了你没有威望，最好是像曹操这样，需要威望的时候他是不怒而威，平时的时候他又亲切随和，这样就使自己的下属既尊敬他，又爱戴他，这个分寸，曹操也把握得很好。所以曹操经常把正经事用开玩笑的口气来说，比方说他有一个人在他敌人那边，自己的父亲被曹操下了大狱，曹操就给他写封信说，令尊大人在我的监狱里日子过得还不错，不过呢，国家也不能老掏钱替人家的爸爸养老啊，你看着办吧，非常好玩儿。
The second reason is easygoing. One of the good aspects of Cao Cao’s personality is that he is a man of temperament. We all know that Cao Cao is a poet, who has both the qualities of a military commander and the qualities of a poet. As long as he is not in formal office or combat, he is very easygoing. He will tell jokes, joke, and fight with everyone, so that he has an affinity. A leader who is too serious is not good. He is too serious, and others think you should not be close to him; “Too casual is not good, too casual. You don’t have prestige. It’s best to be like Cao Cao. When he needs prestige, he is not angry but powerful. Usually, he is kind and easygoing, which makes his subordinates both respect him and love him. Cao Cao also grasps this balance well.”. Therefore, Cao Cao often uses a joking tone to talk about serious matters. For example, if he had a person on his enemy’s side, and his father was put into prison by Cao Cao, Cao Cao wrote a letter to him saying, “Your father is living well in my prison, but the country cannot always pay for the elderly care of their father. You can handle it as you see fit. It’s very interesting.”.
第三个原因，他的真诚，曹操是真心诚意、实实在在希望有很多人来帮助他，他确实感到自己一个人是孤单的，是势单力薄的，这是他的真话。曹操有一首诗叫《短歌行》，里面有这样的句子“青青子衿，悠悠我心。但为君故，沉吟至今。”翻译过来就是，青青的是你的衣衿啊，悠悠的是我的爱心，只是由于你的原因啊，让我思念到如今。思念着谁？不是情人，不是小蜜，是能够帮助他成就一番事业的朋友，这个感情是真实的，所以第三个原因是他的真诚。

第四个原因是深沉，曹操是一个很深沉的人，我们去看一下这首《短歌行》，他的开头的句子是什么呢？“对酒当歌，人生几何。譬如朝露，去日苦多。”人生是很短的，我们应该利用这短暂的人生干出一番轰轰烈烈的事业来，因此需要有大量的人才、朋友来帮助我。所以他的用人之道是站在这样一个对宇宙、人生的哲学思考的高度产生出来的，绝非一般意义上的用人之道，所以曹操这个人是很随和的，也是很深沉的。郭嘉对曹操有这样一个评价，叫“外易简而内机明”，就是表面上看着他随随便便，实际上里面内心深处很深很深，他可以和你握手言欢，他可以和你谈笑风生，他可以和你嘻嘻哈哈，他可以和你勾肩搭背，但是请你注意，当他和你握手言欢嘻嘻哈哈的时候，他在观察着你，而且看人看得入木三分，他会把他对面的人看在眼里，记在心里，烂在肚子里，然后他知道怎样来对待你，或者说怎样来对付你。曹操看人是很厉害的，袁绍那么气焰嚣张，袁术那么不可一世，曹操都没有放在眼里，唯独对于那个先前卖草鞋，后来寄人篱下的刘备另眼相待，曹操甚至说出了这样的话：“今天下英雄，为使君与操耳”。这句话是很奇怪的，刘备是不是英雄？如果刘备是英雄，那么曹操说这句话等于明说争天下的就是我们俩了，不该说啊，应该烂在肚子里。那么如果刘备不是英雄的话，那曹操说这个话干什么呢？所以我们就很想弄清楚曹操看刘备看得准不准，刘备是不是英雄？曹操有没有说“今天下英雄，唯使君与操耳”这句话？请看下集——青梅煮酒。
