第二就是“装生病”。吕蒙写信给孙权说，说关羽现在之所以犹犹豫豫，没有抽调南郡的兵力去增援襄樊前线，是害怕我吕蒙在他后面插他一刀子。而总所周之，我吕蒙是一个身体很不好，经常生病的人，请将军批准我现在宣布生病，回建业养病。孙权说好，发一封公文，不加密封的，召回吕蒙，也就是公开宣布吕蒙病重，回建业休养。这是第二步，叫做装生病。
