我觉得刘备作为一个候补皇帝是很合格的，第一，他有帝王之分，就是他有成为一个皇帝的可能性，可能性在哪里呢？两点，第一，出身，刘备是刘氏宗室，是皇帝家族的人，当然他这个血缘关系已经非常淡薄了，甚至不大说得清楚，但是他亮出这个招牌以后大家都也还认了，而且细细排起来，当今圣上还得唤他一声叔，叫做刘皇叔，他是皇帝的叔叔呀，那么如果说这个皇帝不中用了，换他叔叔来当比换一个外姓人来当在当时还是要方便一些，说得过去一些，这是一条。第二条呢，刘备的形象好，两耳垂肩，双手过膝，帝王之相，不像曹操，孙权形象也好的，这三个人当中形象最差的就是曹操，这也是曹操最后不敢称帝的原因之一，是个次要原因，但是也是个原因，我们今天当然主张不要以貌取人，但是古人不这么看，古人他以貌取人，很讲究形象的。曹操这个人形象不好，望之不似人君，一看上去不像个皇帝样，这个不行，刘备像，孙权也像。
